Hackintosh is in some ways better than mac, if you don't go for the slim and look feature... With a good PCI express, it gives wonderful performance, I used it personally in my PC.

FCP in good for making amazing titles but I feel other than the rendering time (20% faster in my experience), it's no better than PremierePro for linear editing. With PP you can start editing right away, but with FCP you have to give it the time to Transcode the videos into ProRes codec. Though FCP does not need to render at all during editing, which is a big time saver but at the same time it does not integrate with after Effect and you have to say, there in no Tutorial on the Software "MOTION" available and it is a Complex one. You have to know how to achieve an effect perfectly, you just can't keep trying and hope to luckily find out.

I don't know if you are a fan of VideoCoPilot.net or not. Any fan of this site won't ever want to go to FCP or Motion. But I have to admit the Color Grading of Apple is just amazing though the same is possible in After Effect.

When I worked in Intrac, I happened to meet an Indian Cinematographer who had been working in movies like Transformer and King Kong. And surprisingly enough they use the Adobe pack for everything, from compositing to color correction; all the special effects and final output. Besides for the new 3D technology movies, you just have to use After effect, it's much tougher to convert a 2D shot in 3D using MOTION (yet) unless you are shooting in a 3D camera.

So, if you are making a romantic drama or a short film, where color and light is everything, have short time for editing (7 days or so) , i would suggest, go for FCP. If you are making a lot of special touch and planning to edit 2 months+ for a 1 hr video piece (trying to make a masterpiece), go for adobe suite, you'll be able to do everything you can do in FCP (including Color Grading) and a hundred things more (though nothing beats the titles of FCP).

My choice? Edius 6.01 (fastest and easiest editing software ever) for Linear cut, After effect for Special Effects, FCP for Color grading as well as final output, if not available AE rocks again... I don't think there's any combination which can beat this, After all, other than the Edius bit, even the Hollywood follows this...

I'm sorry there has been a mistake. I think the new Motion 4 can work with 3D as well as After effect, I did not know that... my bad.

what if I want to use Final Cut Studio in Hackintosh? what should the configuration be in the PC?

okay, I didn't know about Transcoding videso into ProRes codec. Of course I heard about the color grading in FCP is really great compare to any other video editors available.

First of all, 4GB+ RAM, at least a Quad Core processor, and 512mb+ graphics card, chip-set should be of Nvidia's top one (Price range 14K+)... In summary, the config apple put in their Macbook Pro.

can i ask you for something? Why don't you make a basic AE tutorial for the newbie filmmaker? I think it's a good idea. I was thinking about making a tutorial on Premiere Pro for the novice filmmakers, but it'd be good if they have the chance to learn the AE too.
